Check Your Site Links

You've worked hard, built a great website, optimized your pages for the search engines and not much is happening.

What?

It's time to check your links. Back links into your websites, while not as important as they were a couple of years ago, still matter to the search engine spiders. Broken links can slow down your climb to the top of the rankings. Here's a checklist for checking backlinks into your site.

1. View the source of each and every page.

Is there JavaScript and CSS on the page? Remember that spiders may not index pages that have more than 10k or so of JavaScript or CSS embedded in them. Spiders don't enjoy getting tangled up in JavaScript. In general, avoid putting out prompts and alerts using JavaScript every time that a page loads. Avoid link partners who do the same.

2. With CSS, link to it from another source.

Create a separate CSS page and use the "link" tag to work it into the head of your HTML. This method will keep your file size small. If you use the same CSS on several pages, decrease your bandwidth usage.

Normally a large quantity of CSS within the document isn't indicative of any suspicious behavior on the part of the linker. If you feel that you are, indeed, suffering from the fact that the site uses such an excessive proportion of CSS on the page itself, create an external CSS document and link to it in your header.

3. Check domains

Make sure you are linked to the domain you think you are linked to. Check it regularly. There are some good, free link check softwares that automate the process well. The sad news here is that some people will move you to other domains and subdomains without notice. If the domain has changed, delete your backlink to the site in question immediately and then email the webmaster with your complaint. If the problem remains delete your end of the link.

4. Check back links

Make sure that these links appear in legitimate places. If the site is completely dedicated to linking to other sites and doesn't seem to be a directory or something similar you will want to get your link removed as soon as possible. There is no time when one link is worth the risk of being permanently banned from any popular search engine.

A good site with no html errors and all links working is not a very complicated thing to get on the web. It takes time and effort but will pay off with the search engines. Chek your links regularly. While search engine optimization and what the spiders look for changes and will change, a site with good links is and will be important. Clean html and good links from solid sites pay off dividends to webmasters.

Getting Your Site Indexed by the Major Search Engines

This is the first article in a six part series on how you can get indexed in the most important search engines on the internet. These search engines include Google, Yahoo, MSN, Exactseek, and Alexa. These sites cover over 80 percent of the searches done on the internet, so it's well worth the effort to prepare your site correctly, and submit it to these search engines.

Before you do any kind of promotion on the internet, you need to make sure that your site is properly prepared for the search engines. The reason is that the search engines will be the main way that others find you on the internet.

If you haven't optimized your site for the search engines, now is the time to do it.

There are two tools that you can use, that are absolutely free, to optimize your website. Keep in mind that your main focus should be on optimizing individual pages for various keyword terms on your topic.

Good Keywords - http://www.goodkeywords.com/ - This tool will tell you what others are searching for, as well as how often the search terms are searched for in a month. Windows.

Web CEO - http://www.webceo.com/ - This software suite will not only help you optimize your pages for the search engines, but it will help you find link partners, as well as keyword terms, and you can use it to submit to other lesser known search engines. Windows and MAC.

It is beyond the scope of this article to teach you how to optimize your site for the search engines. Web CEO contains step by step documentation that will teach you everything you need to know about search engine optimization.

What's important here is that you find out specifically what keywords and keyword phrases searchers are looking for when searching. If you optimize your site for the wrong keyword search terms, either no one will find you, or you will have so much competition, you won't be able to get your site to rank very high.

Most searchers won't go beyond the first three pages of results. Rank below this, and you'll have a tough time being found.

Another important point to remember is that each of the main search engines is different. You can optimize your site for Google, which is the most important search engine right now, but you can optimize your site for indexing in all of the major search engines if you do it right.

Avoid techniques like keyword stuffing, redirect pages that are unrelated to your site, and junk pages. Multiple domains pointing to the same site or a mirror site are a definite no no.

Although there is some debate these days about using other writers' articles because of the duplicate content rule, remember that all of the major search engines are full of duplicate content.

Using articles written by other authors is a great way to provide value to your site visitors, but you will want to write a few of your own articles. By writing your own articles, you can optimize them for your keyword terms, something you can't do with other writers' articles.

When you write your articles, convert them to HTML and then use Web CEO to optimize them for your keyword terms. Make sure you focus on no more than two to three terms per page, or you will have problems optimizing your page. You want your articles to make sense, and you want them to provide value to your readers.

Finally, once you've optimized your site, you'll want to make sure that you submit them to the major search engines. Although there is some debate these days over whether or not this is necessary, the major search engines aren't perfect, and they don't always update properly.

Once you've submitted your sites, you can move on to the next steps in your internet marketing campaign. Resubmit only when you've made major changes to your sites.

Search engine optimization and submission is a long term marketing strategy. Good ranking, as well as good coverage of your site won't happen overnight. It will happen though if you stick to good search engine optimization techniques to improve your site's ranking.

Build A Huge Number Of Incoming Backlinks And Get Free Targeted Web Site Traffic

The great thing is, that the free targeted traffic is not just a dream but a reality also. Search engines see the number of incoming backlinks like votes, which related web sites give to your site by setting your link on their page.

The search engines evaluate your site according to the number of incoming backlinks. The more your site has them, the more useful it is and the more higher search engines will place your site on the search result pages. And the more targeted web site traffic you will receive.

Sounds too easy to be true. But suprise, suprise, it is easy. The process is called web site optimization., which means using ways to get higher search engine position. So the key is to know, how search engines put all sites in certain order.

The first thing to get targeted web site traffic is to make a so called on page optimization. The keywords play a leading role in that process. As you know people search information in the internet by typing keywords or - phrases on the search bar and will get a list of pages as a result, which all include the keyword searched.

Now you understand that to be able to get the first place on the result page, you have to win all other pages. You can do this, it is not complicated, when you know according which factors search engines set the pages in certain order. The only target is to get the first place, because that will bring the maximum amount of targeted web site traffic to your site.

The keywords must be big enough but not too big, nor too small. You have to analyze the PR and the number of incoming backlinks at least from Google, MSN aand Yahoo. It has my experience that keywords make it possible to get on a certain result page and the number of incoming backlinks make it possible to increase the position and finally to reach the number one position.

This and only this, is the order of issues in the optimization process. It means that by using only huge number of incoming backlinks, you cannot reach your target. The direction is missing. Keywords will direct your site to the right search result pages.

Because free targeted web site traffic is so important, you may wonder how you can build the amount of incoming backlinks, which is needed. How to make other websites to set your backlink on their page. Maybe the best way is to write keyword articles and distribute them using some software, which will broadcast them into hundreds of directories and websites with the click of the mouse

These articles will do two things. They will form the required number of incoming backlinks and they will pre sell the idea of your page and then bring these warm visitors into your website.

Everywhere you turn, there are offers for you to make thousands of dollars a month and what all these offers have in common is that each claims theirs is the best, fastest, and easiest way to get rich. Affiliate programs are one of these offers and like the real estate schemes and door to door sales companies of the past, they simply don't work. Today, affiliate programs are the Internet version of telemarketing and pyramid schemes. The best way to make money with an affiliate program is to avoid it completely and invest your time in your own business, your own domain, and your own website.

Once you've registered your own personal domain name and built your website to your satisfaction - that is, it uploads quickly; there are no errors in grammar or spelling or price; and it represents your business, products, and services accurately - then and only then is it time to register your website with the search engines.

Registering your personal domain with the search engines is how you draw traffic to your website from across the globe. People who type in search words that are associated with what you have to offer (your business; services and products) should be able to find your website among the listings that the search engine returns. For this to happen, you must register your site with each search engine.

All of the search engines have a similar system for new sites to sign up. Here is an example for Google. First, go online, open your browser, and head to the Google website (www.google.com). Click the 'About Google' link. There are four major sections of links; one of them is listed as being for 'Site Owners.' That's you! The last link on the list is 'Submit Your Content to Google.' That's the link you want. The first link on that page is 'Add Your URL to Google's Index.' Click on this link. From here, there are full directions on how to list your domain name or URL so that it will be included in searches that Google does.

It may take a few days to go into effect. Give it about 5-7 days and enter in a variety of terms into the search engine that you've signed up with, including the exact name of your website, to see how high up on the list your site shows up.
Do you see it at all? Is it on page 20? Many business and website owners obsess about their rankings on search engines. They want their site to be the first one on the list. Don't put this pressure on yourself. There are bound to be a variety of businesses that combine words that are in your business name and services. Your first priority should be to build a solid business and begin to generate traffic to your website. Worry about your rankings later.

How To Get Good Search Engine Rankings

Getting good rankings on the most important search engines is about having your pages well optimized. Search engines analyse many different elements of web pages when they determine the ranking of a page. It's important that you utilize good on site optimization as well as good off site optimization.

1. On-site optimization factors.

One of the keys to ensuring search engines can index your site is to make sure that your web pages have enough text. It is often said that a picture means a thousand words. However, in the world of computerized search engine spiders, this is definitely not the case. A search engine is trying to classify your pages by the text it finds and not by images. A beautiful image is almost meaningless to the search engine spiders. Search engines need text to index web pages

For the same reasons, it is also important that you have plain text links on your web pages. If you use image or JavaScript links on your pages, it is possible that search engine spiders may not follow these links so that it then cannot find your other pages. You should also include plain text links help search engines to spider your site.

It is important to understand that you want not only your main page, but all of your web pages to be included in the search engine index. Most people will probably enter your site through the main page however; there will be those who will enter after conducting a search which relates better to one of your other pages. The best way to make sure that search engines will find and index your entire site is to include text links to your other pages.

Also optimize your pages in terms of your main keywords or key phrases. These should appear in your page title, headings, and Meta tags and in the headlines on the page. Ideally they should also appear in your first and last paragraph as well as naturally throughout the text of your page.

2. Off-site optimization factors

Off site optimization principally refers to linking. The number and the type of web sites that link to yours are very important. However, just having lots of links is not enough. Not only do you want as many other web sites to link to you as possible, but it is also vitally important that the links are from related sites.

Sites with a similar theme to yours, and are relevant to your visitors are the best to exchange links with. Further, try to ensure that the anchor text you use contains the keywords or phrases for which you want to have high search engine rankings.

Getting good search engine rankings is not about tricking the search engines. Techniques such as cloaking, keyword stuffing, and hidden text were originally used to fool search engines to get more traffic. However, just getting the traffic is not the end of it. These techniques do nothing to enhance the experience for your visitors, and indeed may well detract from it. They are also not sanctioned by the search engines themselves may well get your site penalized by the search engines.

The purpose of good rankings is to increase visitors; hopefully to take up whatever you are offering them. By using good natural optimization methods you can not only increase your ranking with the search engines, but also provide a better website for your visitors, after all, it is they whom you most need to impress.

4 Key Strategies to Reach the Top of the Search Engine Rankings

Have you ever had a friend call you and say, "Hey, I googled myself today and actually found me!" Cool, you think. You go to your computer and try to google your friend as well. Nothing comes up. You tell her. "Oh, well, you have to click "next" at the bottom of the page. Keep clicking that until you're on like, the forth-seventh page-do you see me yet?!" Of course, just keep clicking "next," why didn't you think of that?

You didn't think of it for the same reasons millions of other people searching the Internet don't think of it. They're either in too much of a hurry to pay attention to anything after the first results page, or they've come to believe that anything after the first results page isn't as interesting or helpful.

Getting your website and business on search engines is a good way to help promote yourself, but getting to the top of the search engines is where you want to be. After all, people aren't going to keep clicking until they find your site on the forty-seventh page. People don't even know they're looking for your site. It's your job to put it out there so it's easy for them to find, and one way you can do this is by getting to the top of the search engines.

Before you submit your website to a search engine you want to first make sure your site is rich in content and that you are avoiding all spam and html tricks. Then, once you're listed, keep these keep points in mind:

1. The higher your number of inbound links, the better. One of the best ways to get inbound links is by writing articles on your niche. The absolute best thing about using this approach is that it is absolutely free so if you are on a tight budget this is a sure fire way to get great rankings with the search engines without burning a hole in your wallet.

2. Pay loving attention to each page of your site, use keywords that relate to your niche in the titles of your pages if possible and frequently throughout the text, as long as it does not affect the quality of the content you are delivering to your visitors.

3. Keeping keywords at the top of your page is the best place; matching search phrases is more effective than matching single words

4. Elaborate graphics are not helpful, they take forever to load and do not contribute to your rankings with the search engines. Remember, your goal is to generate highly targeted traffic that produces a profit not to win the prettiest site award. There are tons of 'ugly' sites making very handsome amounts of money.

Once you've been successful in getting to the top of the search engines, you must keep working to keep yourself there. It is crucial to monitor your status on a regular basis, and pick up the step if your position on search engine result pages starts to slip.

Ways To Appear On The First Page Of Google Search Results

Once you create a website for your business, you quickly figure out that people are not flocking to it. When you assess the different ways of driving traffic, your options include advertising your website address, promoting your website address through Public Relations and gaining media coverage, encouraging other sites to link to you and getting placed in online directories.

However, these marketing activities will deliver small and sporadic volumes of traffic. The single biggest thing you can do to drive traffic is search engine marketing. If you want to drive traffic to your site it is imperative that you get onto the first three pages of Google and the other top search engines.

Here are few ways through which you can get your site appear on the first page of Google search results.

In order to optimize your website to appear in natural search results, there are four components that you will need to address.
1.

Design: Many small businesses make the mistake of designing their website and then start thinking about driving traffic to it. The problem is that the way you design your site can result in your site being ignored by the search engine spiders, which means you will receive very little traffic. When designing your site, ensure you avoid the following pitfalls.

Flash: Sites are designed in HTML or flash codes. The spiders that are sent to your site by the search engines cannot read flash.

Frames: Some agencies design sites within frames. It makes designing the site easier as the only thing that changes from page to page is the content within the frame. However, spiders cannot read what is inside a frame so you will not get indexed and noticed by search engines.

Dynamic pages: Some sites are developed with a database which generates dynamic pages. Again, most but not all of the search engines can read dynamic pages.

Text within graphics: To ensure text is read uniformly by different browsers, design agencies often put text within a graphic. It looks great, however, a spider cannot read what text is in a graphic and simply moves on.

Keywords: At design stage, think about the keywords you want to be found by on search engines and incorporate that into your design.

2.

Content: Major areas to be stress upon are:

Keywords: Choosing the keywords that you want to appear in search results for is one of the most important things you can do. Invest time in choosing the keywords. Think about how you would search for your product or service. Once you have decided on your keywords, you need to place them throughout your site. The main areas are:

Web page title: This is what you see written in the title bar of the browser. This should explain what the purpose of your site or your page is and include keywords, but always in such a way that makes sense to a user who reads it.

Meta tags: The tags are not visible to users but they explain what the content of the page is. Keywords should be placed in here as they are easily searchable by spiders.

Homepage content: Your homepage is searched by the spiders and you should ensure that your keywords appear near the top header. They should also be sprinkled throughout the homepage.

Keyword density: Each page should have a minimum of 250 words; your keywords should account for 2 - 8% of the word on the page. That means they should appear between 4 and 16 times. To help you achieve both objectives you should focus on a couple of keywords for each page rather than a large number.

3.

Links:

Inbound links: your site might be designed in a way that is easily searchable by spiders and your content might be sprinkled with keywords, but you need to have other sites linking to you in order to achieve success. Ensure you know how many other websites are linking into your site and set a goal for increasing that figure. You can Post comments on forums or discussion groups with a link back to our site or Register your site with multiple directories in order to get links.

4.

Maintenance: Once you achieve a high ranking in the search engines, it is important to realize that you need to maintain your ranking. The criteria the search engines use in the algorithms constantly change and what works today may not work next week. Your site will need to be tweaked to bring you back up the rankings.
